IN MEMORIAM
The Sanders Trust fondly remembers football legend, colleague, mentor, business partner, and most of all friend, Bart Starr.
In 1989, Bart Starr and Rance Sanders founded Starr Sanders Properties, which immediately established a national footprint, from Florida to California. Bart worked closely with Rance on a daily basis cultivating development and acquisition opportunities and relationships.
As the company continued to grow, it evolved in the late ‘90s to become The Sanders Trust and Bart would go on to serve as its Vice Chairman.
Bart was widely known for his and his wife, Cherry’s, selfless philanthropy. They helped found the Rawhide Boys Ranch in 1965 (which still exists today, having saved thousands of at-risk youth and families). They have also contributed their time and resources to The Vince Lombardi Cancer Foundation, Children’s Hospital of Alabama, The Humane Society of Birmingham, and Cornerstone Schools for disadvantaged children.
"From dear friend, mentor, childhood hero, to business partner, Bart taught me untold lessons on life, people, hard work, and grace. From Presidents, Senators, Governors, CEOs, movie stars, NFL Hall of Famers, or regular fans, Bart treated everyone with kindness and respect. I hear the word "gentleman" used to describe him, but his character was even broader. He genuinely cared about people and believed the best in them," says Rance.
The Sanders Trust sends deepest condolences to the family of the former University of Alabama and Green Bay Packers football star. As Bart left this world, he did so in peace, his faith intact, and having always trusted in the goodness of humanity.
